Roy Keane and Gary Neville explain what Manchester United win vs Man City means for Solskjaer

Manchester United greats Roy Keane and Gary Neville have explained what the 2-0 win over Manchester City means for the club and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Norwegian manager has endured some tough times since he took over from Jose Mourinho in December 2018 but both Keane and Neville believe the victory at Old Trafford is a huge one for the United boss.

Anthony Martial scored the opening goal for United in the first half after Bruno Fernandes' free-kick as the ball went underneath Ederson, before Scott McTominay took advantage of another mistake from the City goalkeeper.

Keane and Neville hailed the win post-match and discussed how important the result is.

"Not many times over these last few years have I seen the stadium," Neville told Sky Sports. "They needed it. It still doesn't give them what they wanted. They are more confident and positive about what they are doing.

"This type of win buys him (Solskjaer) more time. I'm glad they supported him in the transfer window."

Keane added: "Brilliant. Ole needed it and the club needed it. It wasn't a brilliant performance but it was dogged. It was a really good performance. I really enjoyed it.

"I haven't seen the atmosphere like this for a long time. I felt it was more of a derby for United today than City.

"They have been under a lot of pressure. They have done well today. It is a big boost for Ole.

"You have to win big games at home. When you get a big win, you have to follow it up."
