Roy Hodgson confirms Crystal Palace forward Jordan Ayew has tested positive for coronavirus

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has confirmed that Jordan Ayew was not available for the Eagles' game with Brighton after testing positive for coronavirus.

The Palace forward was a notable absentee from the matchday squad for the game with Brighton at Selhurst Park, as the Eagles returned to Premier League action after the international break.

In his absence, Michy Batshuayi was given an opportunity, with the Chelsea loanee starting alongside Wilfried Zaha in attack against the Seagulls.

And speaking in his post-match press conference, Hodgson has confirmed why Ayew was not involved, adding that Palace must now follow guidelines.

"Unfortunately he tested positive for COVID-19 in our last test on Friday after going away with Ghana," Hodgson said.

"We have to follow guidelines before we can see him again."

Palace's next game in the Premier League is away against Fulham at Craven Cottage next Saturday, before the Eagles travel to face Wolves at Molineux on Friday, October 30.

Without Ayew, Palace drew 1-1 with their arch-rivals, with Wilfried Zaha's first half penalty cancelled out by Brighton substitute Alexis MacAllister late in the second half.

The point means Palace stay 12th in the Premier League table, with seven points from their first five games of the season.
