Ross Tierney and JJ Kayode return to starting XI for U21s' must-win clash with Sweden

Republic of Ireland under-21 boss Jim Crawford has made two changes to his starting XI to face Sweden in a must-win Euro qualifier in Tallaght tonight.

Bohemians midfielder Ross Tierney and Rotherham United striker JJ Kayode are the men to come as Crawford looks to freshen up the side beaten 2-0 by Italy on Friday.

The Dubliners come into the side in place of UCD's Colm Whelan, who made his first competitive start against the Italians, and Borussia Moenchengladbach's Conor Noss.

Tierney was unfortunate not to equalise late on from the bench of Friday night as he found himself one-on-one with Italy keeper Marco Carnesecchi but he couldn't convert.

21-year-old Tierney has been a revelation at Dalymount Park this season and is set to seal a move to Scottish side Motherwell following Bohs' FAI Cup final appearance next Sunday.

Kayode, also 21, has made steady progress in South Yorkshire as well, breaking into the first team this year after impressing on loan with Carlisle United last season.

The Blanch native spoke to Dublin Live this week about his friendship with fellow Rotherham man Chiedozie Ogbene and his desire to emulate his success as an Irish-Nigerian.

Lee O'Connor has shaken off a knock to start at right back, where he will be part of a back four charged with shutting down one of Europe's top talents in Man United's Anthony Elanga.

Kick off is 7pm with full live coverage on RTÉ2 (more details here).

Ireland Under-21: Brian Maher; Lee O'Connor, Jake O'Brien, Mark McGuinness, Joel Bagan; Conor Coventry, Gavin Kilkenny, Ross Tierney; Will Smallbone, Tyreik Wright, JJ Kayode.
