Ross County 1 Motherwell 2: Bevis Mugabi hands Graham Alexander first win as 'Well boss

Motherwell secured their first win in fourteen games courtesy of Bevis Mugabi's second-half header.

Remarkably, it was the first time this season that the Steelmen have fought back from behind to win as Graham Alexander won his first game in charge of the Fir Park side.

Oli Shaw handed the hosts an early lead before Devante Cole levelled just after the interval before Mugabi's winner on 72 minutes.

The crucial three points moves the 'Well above their opponents into 10th place in the Premiership table ahead of the visit of Dundee United next Wednesday.

Motherwell boss Graham Alexander made two changes from the weekend defeat against Aberdeen.

Barry Maguire replaced the suspended Liam Polworth while Chris Long was favoured over Sherwein Seedorf. Alexander was also boosted by the return of Steven Lawless who took his place on the bench.

The Steelmen started impressively on the front foot and forced three corners within the first three minutes. Tony Watt met Maguire's second delivery but his header was deflected behind by a County defender.

Ross County's Leo Hjelde was extremely fortunate to avoid a booking when the Celtic loanee poleaxed Robbie Crawford on the halfway line on eight minutes.

Motherwell's excellent start continued and Cole spurned a great chance on eleven minutes.

The energetic Watt slipped in the towering striker just six yards out but Ross Laidlaw was sharp off his line and thwarted Cole's left-footed strike.

Despite the Steelmen's positive start, Ross County took the lead on 12 minutes through Shaw.

Jermaine Hylton nipped ahead of Mugabi to collect Hjelde's long pass and although Liam Kelly saved the former Motherwell winger's shot, the ball squirmed free straight to Shaw to tap into an empty net.

Motherwell edged possession during the opening half hour but struggled to break down a resolute County defence.

Allan Campbell produced his usual combative performance and the Scotland U-21 international had an ambitious shot from outside the box deflected behind on 40 minutes.

Ross County have conceded the highest amount of fouls in the league this season and Harry Paton and Hjelde were both lucky to avoid yellow cards for persistent fouling.

Motherwell started the second half promisingly and Watt had a tentative penalty claim after a tussle with Jason Naismith waved away by referee Nick Walsh.

The visitors grabbed a deserved equaliser on 51 minutes courtesy of Cole's fourth goal of the season.

The ball was cut back to Watt on the edge of the area and his low shot was parried straight into the path of Cole to tap home for his third goal since Alexander took charge.

Cole's equaliser seemed to galvanise Motherwell and minutes later, Crawford fired narrowly over from the edge of the box.

County had three players booked within four minutes - Morris, Draper and Hylton - before Shaw forced Kelly into a smart save on the hour mark.

The game opened up as it entered the final twenty minutes, Watt forced Laidlaw into a smart save from a tight angle before Paton drilled an effort just wide from the edge of the box.

Motherwell grabbed the winner through Mugabi on 72 minutes as they made their ninth corner of the game count.

Jake Carroll replaced Maguire on corner duties and it paid dividends as he floated in a pinpoint delivery from the left and the towering Mugabi planted a powerful header beyond a hapless Laidlaw.

The Steelmen defended resolutely and put their bodies on the line to secure a brilliant three points on the road
