Rory McIlroy in CJ Cup contention after shooting sizzling 62 in Las Vegas

Rory McIlroy is two shots off the lead heading into the final round of the CJ Cup in Las Vegas after a flawless 10-under 62 in Saturday's third round.

The 32-year-old sits at -19 in the leaderboard and trails Rickie Fowler, who is in search of a first tournament win since February 2019.

Nine pars, eight birdies and an eagle fired McIlroy into contention, while Fowler shot an impressive 63 in his third round to bring a two-stroke advantage into Sunday.

McIlroy is searching for a first win since his Wells Fargo Championship triumph last May. The Holywood native was No 1 in the world after a hugely successful 2019 but has struggled to recapture that form since golf returned from Covid shut-down in June 2020.

"It's an exciting day for me," he said ahead of the final round.

"I'm working on a few things in my game. Not necessarily swing related, but more mental stuff, routine, visualisation, things that I've done pretty well this week for three days.

"It's exciting to try to do those things when you're under a little more pressure tomorrow and you're trying to win a golf tournament. So I'm excited to see how that goes."

Shane Lowry shot a 69 to move to four-under for the tournament but is well off the pace at The Summit Club.
