Rory Gallagher's original musicians, now collectively known as Band of Friends and led by Belfast born bassist Gerry McAvoy, have announced a headline show in the city for June 28.
Known for his solo work and as the frontman of Taste, Rory Gallagher was famed throughout the world, but was particularly loved in Belfast and throughout Northern Ireland - as he was one of the few touring artists who consistently played in the city throughout the troubles.
On June 14, 1995, Gallagher passed away at the age of 47 after complications resulting from liver failure.
Ever since his untimely death, he's been revered as a rock legend.
Now, 2020 will see many of the musician's old band mates come together to celebrate his legacy 25 years after his passing.
Band of Friends, a concept conceived by Gerry McAvoy to celebrate Rory's music, consists of members Paul Rose, Stephen Graf and Brendan O'Neil.
Gerry McAvoy (bass guitar and vocals) has led Band of Friends since it was formed in 2012. Gerry played with Rory for 20 years from 1971 – 1991 and appeared on every Rory Gallagher recording during those years.
The band will be celebrating Rory Gallagher’s 25th Anniversary woth shows in 2020 across USA, Europe, UK and Ireland.
They'll be performing at The Empire Music Hall on Sunday, June 28, with special guests The Davy K Project.
