Rookie receiver DK Metcalf’s debut ‘just a hair from spectacular’

Rookie wide receiver DK Metcalf made his preseason debut as a Seattle Seahawk Thursday night against the Denver Broncos.

The hype surrounding the Seahawks second-round draft pick has been intense this summer as Seattle searches to replace Doug Baldwin.

Metcalf, who has impressed throughout camp, only logged one reception on four targets for eight yards against the Broncos.

“I mean, you know, just got to connect,” Metcalf said after the game. “We’re going to go back and watch the film and correct our mistakes in our practice.”

But coach Pete Carroll isn’t worried about his superstar-receiver-to-be, he likes what’s he’s already seen in practice.

“Oh, just a hair from spectacular,” Carroll said of the rookie’s first appearance. “He’s made a couple of those catches before. He clicked heels with the guy and almost got the first one, and the second one was just off his fingertips. You could see that he got behind him, just like we’re hoping. He’s a big threat.”

Metcalf and the rest of Seattle’s first-year players will have to wait 10 days until their next preseason shot, when the Seahawks square off against the Vikings in Minnesota on Sunday, Aug. 18 in prime time.
