Ronan Keating and Gary Barlow send 'virtual hug' to fans with duet from home

Two of the biggest pop icons from the 90s have spread a bit of joy amid the coronavirus pandemic which is sweeping across the globe.

Ronan Keating and Gary Barlow delighted their armies of fans by teaming up to duet in a special performance they both recorded from their homes.

As government efforts ramp up to curb the spread of the deadly bug, the singers gave a heartwarming performance of one of former Boyzone star Ronan’s biggest hits, a cover of Tracy Chapman’s Baby Can I Hold You Tonight.

The song was recorded by Boyzone in 1997 and was rerecorded by Ronan as a solo star in 2005.

The star, 43, shared the virtual intimate gig with his 340,000 Instagram followers, making the day of fans old and new up and down the country.

Ronan, in self-isolation after returning home from a trip to Singapore recently, said: "G&R #Thecroonersessions.

"A virtual hug for ya all. Two mates missing each other’s company. Love this man and his talent. #RKTwentyTwenty."

And it caught the attention of social media users aplenty, with even a few of those in the public eye thanking the pair for uniting during the time of crisis and providing a much needed bit of light relief while many are stuck at home in self-isolation,

Love Island host Laura Whitmore said ”That’s so lovely.”

Irish football star Robbie Keane said: “Brilliant love it lads.”

Singer Anastasia said: “Loved this one mates.”

And presenter Denise Van Outen showed her appreciation, adding: “Love This.”

And other fans were also over the moon at the meeting of two boyband giants, with one saying: “Two of my childhood heroes.”

Another said: “We all needed this, thank you guys.”

One said: “Absolutely beautiful.

And another said: "Literally made my day."

Take That frontman Gary then went on to offer up another surprise gig with a boyband legend from across the pond, delivering a rousing rendition of his group’s classic Back For Good, this time with N’Sync’s JC Chasez.
