Ron Gordon underlines Hibs ambition as he pinpoints stepping stone to ending Celtic and Rangers dominance

Hibs owner Ron Gordon is adamant that his side can split the Rangers and Celtic Scottish Premiership duopoly - given time and patience.

No side has split the Glasgow giants since Hearts came second in 2006 to Gordon Strachan's champions.

But Gordon is delighted with Jack Ross' progress so far this term leading his troops six points clear of Aberdeen in fourth with just five games left.

And he's sure establishing the Leith club as the third force in the Scottish Premiership could be the foundation stone of an incredible journey.

He said: “I think it’s(being third) a great achievement. But I don’t think we should ever not have more ambition. As a club, we will always have more ambition.

“But we have to go one step at a time. Finishing third is an accomplishment for sure. It is fantastic. But, again, it is not in the bag. We need to finish the job.

"But if we do finish third? Major accomplishment.

“Cup performances in the last year and a half, certainly since I have been at the club, have been fantastic so we are very grateful for that and proud of that.

“But if we can finish in the top two? Why not? That is what we want to do. We don’t ever want to not have ambition.”
