Roman Abramovich wants to return to Chelsea for “a proper goodbye”.
In his first interview since being forced to sell the club in 2022, the former Chelsea owner says he would like to attend a match a Stamford Bridge for one final farewell.
Abramovich bought Chelsea in 2003 and oversaw two trophy-laden decades in west London.
But he was forced to sell the club three years ago after being sanctioned by the UK Government due to alleged links to Russian president Vladimir Putin.
Abramovich has not spoken since Chelsea were bought by an American consortium led by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital in a deal worth £2.5billion.
But, speaking in the new book Sanctioned: The Inside Story of the Sale of Chelsea FC, he has outlined his desire to one day return to Chelsea.
"Perhaps one day there would be a situation where I could attend a match and say a proper goodbye, but nothing more than that,” said Abramovich
Speaking publicly for the first time since 2021, Abramovich has ruled out any future role at a football club.
“I don't have any interest in any role in a football club, certainly not a professional role,” he said.
In the book, new co-owner Boehly outlines his vision to win major trophies at Chelsea.
The Blues had two underwhelming years under the Boehly-Clearlake consortium but qualified for the Champions League and won the Conference League last season.
Boehly said: "Our goal with Chelsea is also to win silverware, because we know, and I know, how much it means to the fans. It makes you appreciate again that sport makes people happy, especially when you win. And Chelsea is supposed to win.
"But I really believe that sustained success is an investment, and no matter what business I'm in, or any industry, there are no shortcuts."
