Rohan Smith provides injury update on Leeds Rhinos duo as selection issues add up

Leeds Rhinos are yet to discover the extent of the injury sustained by Tom Holroyd. The prop, arguably the Rhinos' best player so far this season, was a late withdrawal from last weekend's loss to Castleford Tigers after pulling out of the warm-up.

Head coach Rohan Smith confirmed Holroyd's injury was related to his calf but was unsure if he would be able to play against Wakefield Trinity this Sunday as the club were still awaiting scans to come back.

"Likely unavailable," was Smith's verdict on Holroyd's hopes of playing. "But we've a longer turnaround here so we've still got a few days to figure out if he's got a chance or not before we have to name that 21.

"He actually had a hit in the back last week against St Helens and at the time we didn't think a lot of it. But they think the calf injury may have originated from the back injury, the nerves that travel down the leg. Sometimes it's transferred without being too medical, it could be a referred situation from his back."

Holroyd is one of several forwards unavailable at present, with Zane Tetevano another. Tetevano is dealing with an undisclosed medical issue that is set to keep him out for an indefinite period of time.

When asked for an update, Smith said: "His health is fine, he's in and around training and has a smile on his face. He's restricted to not being able to train fully, he's restricted to low to moderate-intensity training which for a rugby league player is not that stimulating but that's where he's at for now.

"It's quite possible he might play again this year but I don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves. His health and longevity as a human is more important than playing."

Meanwhile, Walmsley's case is due to be heard at 8:30, subject to the McGuire hearing not over-running.
