Rodrygo transfer latest: Xabi Alonso 'counting on' Real Madrid star amid links to Arsenal and Liverpool

Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso has said he is counting on Rodrygo amid links to Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City.

After playing a bit-part role at the Club World Cup earlier in the summer, the Brazilian continues to be linked with a Santiago Bernabeu exit before the transfer window closes.

The aforementioned Premier League trio have all been touted as potential destinations for Rodrygo as they look to bolster their attacking options even further.

However, Rodrygo remains a Real Madrid player. He has been named in the squad for the La Liga opener at home to Osasuna on Tuesday and looks set to have an important role as the season progresses.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference on Monday, Alonso said: “There are a lot of rumours this summer. He’s looks good to me. I’m counting on everyone, and I want them to be committed to the team and be at 100%.

“That’s what worries me and what’s occupying me right now.”

With Liverpool focusing their efforts on signing Alexander Isak from Newcastle, Arsenal’s chances of winning the race for Rodrygo appears to have been boosted as a result of Man City reportedly withdrawing their interest.

City had been tipped to move for the 24-year-old in the event of Savinho leaving for Tottenham.

Reports claim that Pep Guardiola’s side have now decided to keep Savinho which in turn has seen them drop their interest in Rodrygo.
