Rodri Admits Need For Rest Due To Relentless Schedule

Nice start! Let’s go! 💪🏽🙂

Manchester City midfielder Rodri has acknowledged the toll that the team's demanding schedule is taking on him as they chase a second consecutive treble of major trophies. Following City's 3-3 draw with Real Madrid in the Champions League quarterfinal, Rodri expressed the need for rest, stating, 'Every one of us can do better, even myself, but we need to rest to be honest. I do need a rest.'

Rodri has been on an impressive unbeaten streak, having not experienced defeat in any of his last 66 games for club and country, spanning over a year. Interestingly, City's three losses in the league this season occurred while the Spain international was suspended, including the defeat at Newcastle in the Carabao Cup.

Looking ahead, Rodri hinted at the possibility of a rest in the upcoming Premier League fixture against Luton Town, with City currently sitting in third place, just one point behind Arsenal and Liverpool. The second leg against Real Madrid looms four days after the Luton game, with City facing a congested schedule of two matches per week for the remainder of the season.

Notably, Rodri was rested for City's previous encounter with Luton in the FA Cup back in February, a match that saw Pep Guardiola's side secure a 6-2 victory at Kenilworth Road.

As City navigates through a crucial phase of the season, managing player fatigue and ensuring optimal performance will be key priorities for the coaching staff. The potential for rotation and strategic rest periods could play a significant role in City's pursuit of silverware across multiple competitions.
