Rodney Anderson never considered retirement after tearing ACL again

Cincinnati Bengals rookie running back Rodney Anderson is on the comeback trail once more and didn’t once consider hanging up the cleats.

Anderson re-tore the ACL that cost him time in college at Oklahoma this preseason but is now about three weeks removed from reconstructive surgery.

He told Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com he knew what happened right when he made a cut but hasn’t considered giving up.

“I wouldn’t say it crossed my mind. You get tired of rehabbing, but I want to play football. It’s what I want to do. All I know is God’s got a plan for me and I’m going to follow it.”

Anderson’s injury came after an electric preseason debut for the Bengals that had fans and the team alike fired up — he ripped off 51 yards on a smooth four catches and had some big praise from head coach Zac Taylor.

That debut was so hype-worthy because at one point, Anderson was a Heisman Trophy contender who piled up 1,161 yards and 13 scores on a 6.2 average in 2017 before suffering an ACL injury ahead of the draft and falling to the sixth round.

Massive potential with bad injury luck continues to be the story with Anderson — but he isn’t done trying to change the narrative.
