A woman disturbed a man armed with a hammer on the roof of her home, it has been reported.
The incident happened in the Roden Street area of South Belfast at around 6.30am on Friday morning.
It is unclear what the man’s intentions were, but police are investigating.
Local sources say the incident occurred on the roof of a three-story property.
Trevor Greer, a community worker in the area, called for vigilance.

He added: “The woman heard a noise coming from up on the roof so she went up and opened the skylight and there was a man with a hammer in his hand. Thankfully he scampered off and disappeared. I told her to ring the police right away and in fairness they were there right and quick doing door-to-door enquiries.
“It’s not clear if this guy was trying to break in or maybe steal lead, if there is any, from the roof. But it’s a three-story house, so it’s certainly worrying that someone could get up there and be seconds away from getting into your home.”

Locals have reported chalk marking on homes in the area spotted prior to the incident, but it is unclear if there is any link between them and the man on the roof.
A PSNI spokesman confirmed that they are “currently investigating an incident reported to police just after 8am this morning”.
A spokesman said: “It was reported that a householder in the Rodney Street area had disturbed a male who had climbed onto the roof of their property at 6.30am this morning.”
