Rod Stewart says deep love of Dublin was reason he bought Ballsbridge 'flat'

Rod Stewart has said that his deep love for Dublin was what led to him buying a 'flat' in Ballsbridge.

His new pad is is worth an estimated €6.5million and the rock legend is eager to spend time in South Dublin.

The 'Maggie May' crooner spoke to RTE Radio 1 about his and his connection with the capital city.

He said: "I'm buying a flat in Dublin, that's how much I love it, in Ballsbridge near the Aviva.

"That's how much I love Dublin."

The legendary star opened up about his family's lockdown experience.

He said: "I spent a lot of time with all of my children, working on my hobbies and making my music, keeping myself fit.

"I also had a new knee replacement. Lockdown has been surprisingly very lucky, successful.

"We are fortunate we have a big house and lots of land.

"It's not like we have to work on a train or live in an apartment. We had a couple of tearful days.

"I love to socialise, I really missed that side of it.

"We were just lucky. We didn't enjoy it, couldn't go to the pub, couldn't go to the football."

The 76-year-old performer recently announced the release of his new studio album The Tears of Hercules which will feature twelve new songs, nine of which have been penned by Stewart himself.

However, one Irish song in particular has always resonated with the star.

He said: "Grace was on the last album and I first heard the song at a Scottish cup final with Celtic supporters singing it.

"So then, I looked into the history of the song and then of course I went to Dublin, went to the castle and I watched the 1916 documentaries and did a lot of homework on it.

"I love it. Everyday, when I get up I'll sing it in my mind- that's how much I love it."

There was huge excitement among Rod's Irish fans this week after he confirmed that he would perform a date in Dublin and one in Belfast next year as part of his The Tears Of Hercules tour.

The singer-songwriter will perform in Dublin's 3Arena on November 18 2022 and will then head up to Belfast for a show at the SSE Arena on December 20 2022.

Tickets for the shows will go on sale tomorrow.
