Robert Lindsay on becoming an actor (not a hairdresser)

Robert Lindsay, the star of BBC comedy My Family, has retold the story of the reaction of his parents when he told them he wanted to be an actor. The Daily Telegraph reports that Lindsay, who comes from a working class family in an east Midlands mining village, was greeted with the unequivocal response from his father: "Why not go right over the bloody top and be a hairdresser?" At least that's actors 1, hairdressers 0 then.
