An Ayrshire school has closed its doors early for summer following a significant outbreak of Covid cases.
Ayrshire Live told yesterday how a large number of pupils at Robert Burns Academy in Cumnock were self-isolating.
Now health bosses and East Ayrshire Council have taken the decision to shut the school with immediate effect.
Summer holidays were due to begin this Friday.
In a letter to parents, NHS Ayrshire & Arran said: "Following careful consideration of all available information and in conjunction with East Ayrshire Council, we have agreed a closure of the school until Friday, June 25.
"This will mean that the school will not now re-open until August 19 due to the summer break."
The academy is part of the £68 million Barony Campus opened last year.
Lochnorris Primary, Hillside Primary and Cherry Trees Nursery, which sit on the same site, remain unaffected.
