Robbie Neilson makes Hearts goal demand as he outlines how he wants the title won

Robbie Neilson wants Hearts to clinch the Championship title in style.

The Jambos are four wins from securing promotion back to the Scottish Premiership ahead of today’s trip to Arbroath.

As things stand, they are on course to confirm themselves as champions with a win at Dunfermline on 3 April.

However, that relies on them beating the Lichties tomorrow then Queen of the South at Tynecastle next week.

But Neilson doesn’t want his players to inch over the line - he wants them to entertain and rack up the goals as they aim to win every game left of the campaign.

They are by far and away the top scorers in the division with 48 in 20 games, and Neilson wants to bolster that tally significantly in addition to picking up the points required.

“At Hearts it’s about winning the next game, we’ve got three games in a week coming up,” he said.

“We go up to Arbroath and then Brora and Queen of the South at home so we’re looking to win all three games and keep progressing and entertaining. It’s important we score goals and play well and get the momentum continued until the end of the season.

After Gayfield is out the way, it’s a long trip north to Brora Rangers in the Scottish Cup on Tuesday.

While the league as always been the priority this season, Neilson admitted they can start glancing towards the Scottish Cup given their commanding position.

He added: “We would love to take that final step, we’ve been to the final for the last two years now and almost made it. For us the league is the main one, we’re in a good position just now so we can start to shift a bit of focus onto the Scottish Cup.”

Neilson will be without Craig Gordon next week as he join sup with the Scotland squad, and he hopes the Hearts keeper is handed the gloves for the World Cup qualifiers against Austria, Israel and the Faroe Islands.

“I am absolutely delighted for him,” he said. “I think he’s earned it and hopefully he gets a starting position and gives Steve some thoughts about who is going to be the number one going into the tournament.

“He’s done it consistently right through the season, Craig’s big thing was about getting back playing again and he’s done that.

“He’s played every game that he’s been available for us and has been outstanding. I hope he gets a start and does well. I’m sure he will.”

While losing Gordon is a blow, Hearts have an able deputy in Ross Stewart.

Neilson added: “Ross has been doing really well for us in training and bounce games and this will give him a wee opportunity to come in and play some games."
