Kai Trewin dreams of playing for the Socceroos one day but first on his agenda is helping Brisbane Roar keep their A-League Men finals hopes alive with a win over Sydney FC.
Trewin, a defender who has been firing in midfield, will line up in Monday night's encounter at Suncorp Stadium, where victory is a must if the Roar are to set up a final-round push into the top six.
Brisbane are on 27 points, five behind Sydney FC and Wellington Phoenix who are fifth and sixth respectively on 32.
"It will be a do-or-die game," Trewin said.
"(Brisbane have had) little bits of improvement in the last couple of weeks and we've been keeping ourselves just in the running for finals."
The Roar have enhanced their goalscoring clout since interim coach Nick Green took over mid-season from Warren Moon.
In-form striker Jay O'Shea has scored in each of the last six games, while Green said Olyroos representative Trewin had played a key role in Brisbane's improved attacking prowess.
"Kai has been really good since I have been here and has played in that midfield role for us in the last couple of games," the coach said.
"His energy, aggression and tidiness in possession has given us the platform to start attacks.
"One thing we looked to do when I came in was get Jay higher up the field and get him the ball.
"We have been scoring goals as a team. I'd like to score more goals and get more wins."
Green said the 21-year-old Trewin - flagged as a Socceroo of the future - had "a great career ahead of him".
"It is definitely a dream to play for the Socceroos one day," Trewin said.
"We went away with the Olyroos about a month ago to Italy. Being involved in any national team camps is a huge honour for me and something I strive for.
"Trent Sainsbury and Mark Milligan were two players I looked up to, watching the Socceroos from afar - the way they played and (me playing in) similar positions to them."
Contracted at the Roar until the end of next season, Trewin said it remains a "dream of mine" to eventually test himself in Europe.
