Roar eye finals but must beat Jets to start ALM run

Last-placed Brisbane Roar can still make the A-League Men finals but interim coach Nick Green admits they must start going on a winning run by getting a victory over Newcastle in Redcliffe.

Sydney FC are in sixth position on the ALM ladder with 28 points and the Roar are last on 23 points with four regular season games remaining.

Mathematically the Roar are still a finals chance but the wooden spoon remains another possibility if they dish up more performances like the 4-1 loss to Central Coast last week.

The Jets are right in the finals hunt on 26 points and have plenty to play for on Saturday night.

Green said "anything was possible" with regards to finals but first-up the goal is to make amends for last week's uncharacteristic poor defensive display.

"We will look to be really positive and on the front foot," he said.

"We have got it within the group to be a lot better than what were last and we are looking to bounce back.

"There are good examples of the home games we have played of being on the front foot, being aggressive ... and organised.

"We just didn't see that on Saturday. Sometimes that happens in football and it is important we learn from that."

Serbian import Stefan Scepovic is yet to score in his six games so far.

It has been a team issue for the Roar this year with the side scoring just 20 goals for the season.

Green said the side was creating chances and it wasn't just on Scepovic to score.

"Converting is the hardest thing in football and it has been evident, not just this season, but in previous seasons that we do need someone to put the ball in the back of the net," Green said.

"Stefan knows that he is getting good chances but as a team it is just about converting them."

Forward Jay O'Shea has scored four goals in his last five games and has been one of the team's best.

"Jay links the play really well for us and since I've come through the door we've tried to get him higher up the pitch and get some legs around him to help him and bring him in where he can be a lot more effective for us," Green said.
