Roads in Belconnen have reopened after firefighters stopped a gas leak in Bruce.

Shortly after 11am firefighters were called to reports of a gas leak caused by a workman using a small digger on Jaeger Circuit, Emergency Services ACT said.

ACT Fire and Rescue firefighters contained the leak by using clamps to temporarily seal the damaged pipe.

The gas company remains on site to repair the damaged pipe and there is no longer a threat to the community.

Jaeger Circuit was closed off from the intersection of Haydon Drive in Bruce, but was now been re-opened.
