Emergency services rush to 'unsafe building' in city centre as road closed

Emergency services have rushed to an ongoing incident on Ingram Street in Glasgow's city centre this evening.

Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service are currently on the scene due to an incident involving an "unsafe building" according to Glasgow City Council.

A pane of glass appears to have smashed from the the building above the Emporio Armani boutique, falling to the ground.

Glass has been seen strewn across the street. It is currently unknown whether anyone was injured in the incident.

A police spokesman confirmed that officers were on the scene and that the road was closed in both directions between Queen Street and South Frederick Street.

He said: "There is an ongoing incident on Ingram Street. Police are in attendance at the scene and have requested assistance from the fire service.

"A road closure is in place."

Glasgow City Council have advised drivers to avoid the area following the incident.

Their statement reads: "Due to an unsafe building Ingram Street is closed in both directions.

"The road will remain closed until a safety inspection can be arranged.

"Drivers are advised to use an alternate route."
