Road closed after elderly woman suffers serious injuries in daylight hit and run

A woman in her 70s has suffered a "serious head injury" after she was struck during a hit and run incident on the Wirral.

The victim has been taken to hospital after she was struck by a vehicle in what police termed a "fail to stop" in Bebington today.

Emergency services were called to Kings Lane at 12.45pm on Friday.

Police believe the driver fled the scene.

Old Chester Road is closed towards Kings Lane and motorists are urged to avoid the area.

Ambulance officials confirmed the pedestrian was seriously hurt.

A North West Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We were called at 12.43 today. We treated a female patient in her 70s with serious head injuries at the scene.

"She was then taken to Aintree Hospital."

Police are now appealing to motorists to check to see if they caught the incident on dash cam.

A spokesman said: "We are appealing for information following a fail to stop RTC in Bebington today.

"At 12.45pm, emergency services were called to Kings Lane to reports of a collision involving a vehicle and a female pedestrian in her 70s. She has been taken to hospital for assessment."

He added: "It is initially believed that the vehicle made off, and enquiries are ongoing to establish full details and speak to the driver.

If you were passing and have any information or dashcam footage, please contact @MerPolCC or 101 with reference 416.
