Rival fans say the same thing about 'lucky' Liverpool in Premier League opener

Rival fans were left barely able to believe Liverpool's "luck" within just moments of the Premier League season getting underway.

Newly promoted Norwich got off to a promising start at Anfield before Grant Hanley sliced a clearance into his own net to give the Reds an early lead.

Their advantage was doubled after the ball broke to Mohamad Salah inside the box and he slotted home to make it 2-0 after 20 minutes.

It led to fans of rival sides pointing out their good fortune, with many noting their luck had "continued from last year" after they edged a number of tight victories and scored some controversial goals in the second half of their title charge.

Before half-time, headers from Virgil van Dijk and Divock Origi put them 4-0 up and all but ended the game as a contest - but it did not stop fans believing the ruthless Reds had luck on their side.

"OG and a lucky bounce sums Liverpool up all the luck in the world," one fan wrote, whilst another said: "Two huge slices of luck, two Liverpool goals."

Plenty pointed out a continuation of last season's fortunes, joking the introduction of VAR meant they needed to find new ways to show their fortune.

Others claimed you "couldn't write it if you tried" as their season got off to an ideal start via Hanley's howler.

One viewer went as far as to accuse Klopp's side of having recent success that is "50% luck".

Norwich also missed two solid chances early on before the game quickly slipped away from them with Liverpool providing a rude awakening to begin life back in the top flight.
