Rival defender 'settled nerves' by watching YouTube videos of Liverpool star Sadio Mane

Tottenham teenager Japhet Tanganga has revealed that he watched YouTube videos of Sadio Mane to "scout" the Liverpool star.

The young defender made his Premier League debut against the Reds last season and was played out of position at right-back by boss Jose Mourinho, which meant he was coming up against the world-class Mane.

The 19-year-old coped with the attacking left-wing threat during the match, which the Reds won 1-0 back in January with a goal from Roberto Firmino, but explained that he was "nervous" about Mane "twisting him up".

He told talkSPORT : “The boss [Mourinho] pulled me aside a couple of days before the game and said, ‘do you want to play at the weekend?’, and I was like, ‘well, yeah!’

“Even though I was nervous I obviously couldn’t say no – that’s what we train for.

“So before the game I was YouTubing Mane and basically scouting him.

“I was watching him twisting guys up and I was like, ‘this could be me, man’. So I was nervous, but I had a decent game and he didn’t embarrass me or anything.”
