Rio Ferdinand sends Liverpool vs Manchester United message to Marcus Rashford

Rio Ferdinand has pleaded with Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford to regain fitness in time for this weekend's huge game against Liverpool.

Rashford was introduced as a second-half substitute in United's FA Cup third-round replay against Wolves — which was won 1-0 thanks to a Juan Mata goal — but was forced off soon after.

Ushering Rashford on in place of Mason Greenwood was a decision that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted after the game had backfired.

"Yes it backfired," the Norwegian told BT Sport.

"You got to take them once in a while. He'll be tested in the next few days - we have to see for Sunday. He couldn't run. He struggled a little bit with his back and got another knock. It didn't help."

Ferdinand, as well as tweeting praise for Brandon Williams and United goal scorer Juan Mata after the game, then tweeted about Rashford.

The former United centre-back clearly feels United's chances of getting a result at Anfield on Sunday will take a significant hit if Rashford is unavailable.

Ferdinand tweeted: "Rashford" and then a horrified emoji, before adding: "Pls be fit for 4.30pm on Sunday."

United are the only team to have taken points off Liverpool this season, when Rashford's goal helped Solskjaer's side hold the Anfield club to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford. Jurgen Klopp's side look to be Premier League champions elect, with 20 wins from 21 games, and will be overwhelming favourites when the two clubs meet on Sunday.
