Rio Ferdinand names just one Liverpool star in FIFA 22 TOTY

Ex-Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has included Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah in his FIFA 22 TOTY after his incredible season so far.

The FIFA 22 Ultimate Team TOTY promo is one of the most popular FUT promos in the entire calendar, with the best performing players from the previous calendar year rewarded with boosted FIFA Ultimate Team player items - making them some of the most powerful player items available in the game.

Anyone can vote for their TOTY XI on the EA Sports FIFA website which is made up of 80 nominee's, but just three Liverpool players feature - Salah, Fabinho and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Liverpool players have been a regular sight in the past two FIFA TOTY's, with two Reds making it into the FIFA 21 TOTY, and a whopping five included in FIFA 20.

However, Salah is yet to ever be included in the FIFA TOTY, with Sadio Mane, Andrew Robertson, Virgil Van Dijk, Alexander-Arnold and Alisson the only current Liverpool players to have featured in a FIFA TOTY.

Salah is arguably the best player in the world based on the 2021/22 season so far, with the Egyptian currently leading the Premier League goals and assists chart with 16 goals and nine assists in 20 league games.

His seven goals in six Champions League games takes his total goal tally in all competitions to 23 goals, leaving many fans no choice but to include the 29-year-old in their TOTY.

Ex-United defender Ferdinand has recently teamed up with EA Sports to pick his TOTY when speaking on FIVE, a podcast featuring Ferdinand, and the 43-year-old felt that picking Salah in his side was a no brainer.

“Mo Salah, this guy. Premier league’s best player in 2021," said Ferdinand.

"He has been nothing short of remarkable. No player has scored as many goals as him in 2021.

"Six more [goals] than any other player, directly involved in 35 goals, 11 more than the next closest player.”

Ferdinand has a history of heaping praise on Salah over the last few years, including when he described the Egyptian as 'the most devastating player in the world at the moment' earlier this year.

No other Liverpool players featured in his starting XI, with Ferdinand choosing Manchester City right-back Kyle Walker over Trent-Alexander Arnold, whilst Fabinho missed out behind Thomas Muller, N'Golo Kante and Marco Verratti.
