Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson have given a fascinating insight into their respective roles in Liverpool's recent success.
The pair joined former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand as part of his Between The Lines programme on BT Sport.
As Ferdinand took a deep dive into how Alexander-Arnold and Robertson 's take on the modern full-back position, he could only marvel at their adventurous attacking prowess.
Last season, the pair contributed to 31 Premier League goals (by scoring or assisting) as Liverpool ended their 30-year wait for a top flight title.
Showing the pair a clip of them in action, Ferdinand said: "This is you, Robbo, on the ball, taking on your man, playing and moving, and ending up in the number nine spot.
"Listen, in my day, this never ever, ever happened.
"There's Trent. Now if that's Gary Neville, in my era, I'm screaming 'get yourself back in here' to make sure that we stop the counter attack here. You become one of the defenders helping out at the back.
"Whereas you guys, it's just unbelievable - 'You go, and by the way, I'll go and I'll join you'."
Explaining how they did it, Alexander-Arnold said: "I think the main thing is for us to go, we need to know we've got protection behind us.
"I think we've got to have that trust that Fab (Fabinho), Joe (Gomez) and Virg (Virgl van Dijk) can defend the three v three."
Robertson adds: "I think Gini (Wijnaldum) ends up filling in at left-back, just as I bring it inside, Gini goes in."
Alexander-Arnold continues: "That triangle there should be able to defend against a three, and then Gini's filled in there.
"And Hendo (Jordan Henderson) ends up in the right-back position.
"So when I'm there, there needs to be cover there. That could either be Joe, Fab or Hendo.
"Also, at the edge of the box, there should be someone close enough to that winger to stop the counter attack."
Robertson went on to expand on their development as players under Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.
"I think since I first came, we've both improved our final ball," said the Scotland international.
"I think in the first season that we both kind of broke through, the final ball wasn't always there.
"Sometimes I think we were putting balls into the box that people were never going to get on the end of.
"But I think now we've got a bit more composure."
Ferdinand also looked at footage of both full-backs quickly switching the play with expansive crossfield passes.
"I always think about what do I not want to play against and what causes the most problems for me," said Alexander-Arnold.
