Rio Ferdinand says Manchester United have ignored his calls to sign a centre-back, and the current defenders are making too many mistakes.
The Red Devils were thumped 3-1 by Crystal Palace on the opening day of the season, with Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire at sixes and sevens.
Ferdinand provided a full analysis of where the centre-back pairing went wrong against Palace, and called on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to address the issue and sign someone.
"The centre-back area, it was slow and cumbersome," Ferdinand told BT Sport. "I can see so many different mistakes, areas where there can be improvements.
"This is an area I've been talking about for many months. It has not been addressed."
Former United centre-back Ferdinand went through each of the goals, pointing out step by step all the issues with the Red Devils' defending against the Eagles.
On the first goal, he highlighted Lindelof's "impossible" mistake.
"Once the ball gets to this position, here, as you're the centre-back, Lindelof, he can see Jeffrey Schlupp wanting to make that run," he added.
"He's [Lindelof] in the control. He's the man in advnatage. There is no way the ball should be getting into that area and the striker should be getting on that ball first, it's impossible.
"But you will see, he does everything he shouldn't be doing."
Ferdinand is keen for United to become more clinical in the transfer market and address problems quickly and efficiently.
He said: "You look at Liverpool, the best team in the land. Issue in the goalkeeper area, Alisson, big signing. Issue at centre-half, [Virgil] Van Dijk, bang, deal with it.
"Man United haven't done that. This is not an issue we have just seen the other day."
