Ricky Tomlinson pays tribute after Royle Family co-star Peter Martin dies ages 82

Ricky Tomlinson has issued a tribute to Royle Family co-star Peter Martin following his death aged 82. The two shared the screen together in the legendary BBC sitcom.

Peter played Joe Carroll in the show from 1998 - 2012. Ricky portrayed Jim Royle in the classic comedy and a friend of the Liverpool actor has taken to Twitter to share his words in honour of Peter's legacy.

Comedian John Martin said: "Ricky Tomlinson (who doesn’t do social media) has asked me to pay tribute to Peter Martin who sadly has passed away. Ricky said he was an absolute joy to work with and a brilliant actor. He will be sadly missed by Ricky. R.I.P."

Peter's death was confirmed by a friend on Facebook, who said: "My friend, drinking partner, fishing buddy passed away on Wednesday morning, very sad, many of you will know him from TV. RIP Peter Martin, we had some great laughs."

The actor was also known for his stint on Emmerdale as he played Len Reynolds in the fictional Yorkshire village from 2001 - 2007.

Fans have also been paying their tributes after the sad news broke. Katie said: "Peter Martin has died now! Loved him in the royal family what a rubbish 2023 already"

Steven added: "Aw gutted to hear about Peter Martin (Joe in the Royle Family) he didn’t have that big a part or spoke many words but he was hilarious when on screen. Good singer as well."

Barbara commented: "Absolutely devastated to hear the news of the passing of this legend Peter Martin AKA Len Reynolds in Classic Emmerdale."
