March 02--The super political action committee primarily funded by Marlene Ricketts, the matriarch of the family that owns the Cubs, is preparing to run its anti-Donald Trump ads in Illinois.
Ricketts has put $3 million into the Our Principles PAC, which has been criticizing Trump for not being a true conservative and over his use of undocumented workers on building projects.
But in the new ad, running nationally as well as in Illinois, Florida and Michigan, it is Trump University that comes under fire. On Tuesday, a New York appeals court revived a fraud claim that the state's attorney general had brought against Trump University.
"Donald Trump belongs in 3 a.m. infomercials," a narrator says in the ad, and not the White House.
In 2013, Democratic New York Attorney General Schneiderman filed a $40 million suit against Trump and the school, which changed its name to the Trump Entrepreneur Initiative before it closed in 2010. The lawsuit seeks restitution and damages for more than 5,000 students nationwide who paid up to $35,000 each.
Trump, who has been attacked by GOP presidential foes on the issue, has denied wrongdoing and said it was "a terrific school."
Last month, Trump tweeted: "I hear the Rickets family, who own the Chicago Cubs, are secretly spending $'s against me. They better be careful, they have a lot to hide!"
That prompted Tom Ricketts, the Cubs chairman, to tell reporters at spring training in Arizona, "It's a little surreal when Donald Trump threatens your mom."
