Richard Madden fears he's projecting 'unrealistic body image' over movie star physique

Richard Madden has revealed he fears his physique gained from "barely eating" is promoting an "unrealistic" body image to men.

The Scots Bodyguard star has become a household TV name thanks to his gritty acting and dashing good looks.

But the 32-year-old has opened up on the demands of getting in shape for different roles and the impact he thinks it has on society.

During an interview with Britain's Vogue magazine , Madden recounted how he would go to the gym "twice a day", often on an empty stomach, to prepare for shirtless scenes.

He said: "We're projecting a very unrealistic body image.

"I find myself with actor friends - after we've done a kind of barely eating, working-out-twice-a-day, no-carbing thing for these scenes - looking at each other going: 'We're just feeding this same s**t that we're against.'"

Viewers were no stranger to seeing Madden, who played Rob Stark on Game Of Thrones, in the buff as PC David Budd on the hit BBC drama Bodyguard.

The nude scenes involved in his steamy on-screen love affair with Keeley Hawes' character Home Secretary Julia Montague was many fans' highlight of the terrorism-fuelled six parter.

But the James Bond went on to talk about how male actors are under the same pressure to hit certain weight goals as his female co-stars.

He added: "It doesn’t just happen to women, it happens to men all the time as well”.

Tipped as one of the front runners to step into 007's massive shoes after Daniel Craig hangs up his Walter PPK, Madden also insisted he'd love to play second fiddle to female Bond.

He said: "If it was a good part. If it was an interesting part, a Bond Boy would be an interesting dynamic. Why not?"
