Richard Keys takes swipe at Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool 'babies' after Nottingham Forest shock

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp getting his team selection 'all wrong' is being blamed for costing the club against Nottingham Forest.

The visitors named a youthful midfield to face Forest featuring three players aged 21 years old or under, which was the first time that had been the case for Liverpool in four years. Fabio Carvalho (20), Harvey Elliott (19) and Curtis Jones (21) were the trio behind that stat and are being described as 'babies' who 'weren’t good enough' at the weekend by Premier League pundit Richard Keys.

Jordan Henderson was also on the bench at the City Ground, which particularly irked Keys, and replaced Carvalho on the hour mark after playing the full 90 minutes on Wednesday night against West Ham United. Trent Alexander-Arnold, who was also named as a substitute and came on alongside Henderson for the final half-an-hour after playing the entire match in midweek, is another omission highlighted by Keys in his blog.

"Klopp cost Liverpool at Forest," he wrote. "His team selection was all wrong.

"I know they’ve got injury problems, and losing Thiago so late was a real blow, but you can’t then leave out Henderson and Alexander-Arnold. He had babies in midfield, and they weren’t good enough.

"They tell me that Henderson needs to be ‘managed’ these days. Maybe he does, but he’s only started eight games this season. Surely he’s got more in his tank yet?"
