Richard Dunne tears into 'too slow' Manchester City after RB Leipzig draw

Richard Dunne was unhappy with Manchester City's cautious performance as Pep Guardiola's men limped to a 1-1 draw away to RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

City took the lead midway through the first-half with a quality goal from Riyad Mahrez. Leipzig recovered in the second-half however and fully deserved their draw.

Although City will feel hard done by with the fact that they weren't awarded a last-gasp penalty for what looked a clear handball, Dunne feels the performance begs the question of whether City are too cautious at times.

Both Dunne and fellow Virgin Media pundit Brian Kerr felt City moved the ball too slow across the back and lacked urgency in their play.

They also believe that Erling Haaland isn't being utilised correctly, with City's patient possession football not suiting the Norwegian's explosive style of play.

Dunne wishes City would let the shackles off a bit more, play with some freedom and blow teams away like they do in the Premier League.

"They (City) played pretty much the same way as they did in the first half. They took the sting out of the play, kept possession, and even their goal, it doesn't come from any great build-up play, it comes from turning the ball over high up the field," said Dunne.

"For them to be able to keep the ball is important. But, every time I watch City I think have a go at them. Have a go at whoever you're playing because you've got a better team and you're much more fluent when you just attack.

"But so often City show almost too much respect for the opposition and there's always this fear that they might get done on the counter-attack.

"Don't worry about that. Worry about yourselves, go and create chances. But sometimes it's too slow and too predictable. Sometimes you're wanting just a little bit more urgency."
