Rhys used ChatGPT AI robot to get first Tinder date in five years

A 24-year-old man finally managed to secure his first Tinder date after five years of trying - thanks to the online artificial intelligence ChatGPT. The chatbot is taking over the world with its ability to generate content at the touch of a button, including simplified explanations of complex subjects such as the solar system.

The robot has been used to do everything from writing new songs and books in the styles of famous people such as Stephen King and Nick Cave, to writing essays that would secure a university degree. The artificial intelligence is able to write detailed and complex texts that read as though they were created by a human being.

And it could also help singletons find their perfect match online, whether it’s composing heartfelt poems or sending the perfect message on dating applications, if one man's story is anything to go by. Rhys Davies, 24, of The Wirral, used ChatGPT to secure his first date in five years after struggling to find the right words to speak to girls on Tinder.

Rhys said: “I’ve never been particularly good with words and I would get flustered when I’d try to chat someone up. I always felt that let me down a lot because I’m too nervous at the start and it takes me a while to become more comfortable and be myself.

“I heard about ChatGPT and all the different ways people use it to write things such as essays, so I wondered if it might help me chat more easily to my matches on Tinder. I was really surprised by how good it was at saying what I wanted to say but couldn’t quite find the words to do it right.

“After a couple of chats with a girl on Tinder, I finally got my first date after five years and it couldn’t have gone any better. I definitely feel like I’ve got the monkey off my back and that I’m much more relaxed about further dates, and it’s all thanks to ChatGPT.”

Paul Earnden of global growth marketing agency Fuelius, said: “Since its launch, people have been exploring the various ways ChatGPT can help them with a variety of tasks, and finding love could be one way it can help. Whether it’s composing a romantic poem for someone you are trying to woo, or providing help composing the perfect chat-up line for that new Tinder match, we can all use a little help sometimes.

“It can also be used to give you ideas for the perfect romantic date, and might even plan a better evening that you can do yourself. We are still learning more about ChatGPT and other similar artificial intelligence softwares, but more and more people are exploring their possibilities and using them to improve their everyday lives.”

Since being launched late last year, ChatGPT has become a sensation thanks to its ability to carry out tasks such as generating written content on a variety of subjects. Some users look to it for inspiration on writing essays, songs and poems, while others use it to break down complex subjects into bitesize pieces that are easier to understand.

One of its most popular attractions is that it has been designed to appear more human and natural, rather than robotic. Online search engine giant Google recently launched its rival to ChatGPT, known as Bard, as it bids to help users make complex topics more simple.

What exactly is ChatGPT?

In the most basic terms, ChatGPT is a conversational AI-powered chatbot designed to answer questions and respond to queries in text form in a way that sounds natural and human.

Built by US firm OpenAI, it uses information from the internet to carry out requests and has been trained on back-and-forth conversations so it is capable of understanding follow-up questions, admitting its own mistakes and limitations and rejecting inappropriate requests.

Although chatbot technology like this is not new, ChatGPT is rare in that it was made widely available for the public to use and experiment with.

As a result, it was quickly being used to fulfil unusual and very specific requests – such as writing a song in the style of a specific pop star about a subject currently in the news – with often impressively accurate results that were shared online.

Word of the bot’s ability to create long, detailed answers on often niche subjects quickly spread, sparking debates around the power, usefulness and potential dangers of such technology, while also catching the attention of many people because they were encountering this type of software for the first time.
