Aussie actress Rhonda Burchmore has sassily responded after Anthony Albanese rejected her in his controversial game of ‘shag, marry, date’ late last week.

ICYMI, the PM has faced backlash after saying on the Bush Deep podcast that he’d do “all of the above” with Kylie Minogue, when playing a round of ‘shag, marry, date’.

“I only just got married,” Albanese told podcast host Nikki Osborne when presented with the names of Aussie stars Minogue, Burchmore and actress Nicole Kidman for the game.

“Kylie, clearly… All of the above, she’s terrific,” the PM said.

Burchmore, also known for her appearance on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, was among those to weigh in on the unfolding commentary after being mentioned in the game.

Speaking to the Herald Sun, Burchmore said she was “flattered to be in that bunch of women” named in the podcast episode, before directly addressing the PM’s comments.

“Albo must be intimidated by tall redheads since Kylie is the only one that could fit into his pocket,” Burchmore joked.

Burchmore’s response came as politicians flocked to either criticise or defend Albanese’s comments.

Zali Steggall reportedly said it was “entirely inappropriate for the prime minister to participate” in the game, while fellow MP Dai Le described his response as “unbecoming of a gentleman”.

Multiple Labor politicians, meanwhile, attempted to downplay the seriousness of the comments, with Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan saying the interview was “lighthearted” and Tanya Plibersek adding that it simply meant the PM is a fan of Minogue.

“If what the Prime Minister is saying is he’s a fan of Kylie Minogue, I guess that puts him in a group with millions of other Australians, including me,” Plibersek said.

Albanese responded to the controversy on Monday, saying in a one-line media statement via his office: “I apologise unequivocally for the comments.”
