RFK Jr spills a family secret as he returns to Camp David after 62 years

  • RFK Jr. visited Camp David on Friday, marking his first time at the presidential retreat in approximately 62 years.
  • “I came here on weekends, many weekends, between 1961 and 1963,” he said at a meeting of President Donald Trump ’s Cabinet . “My father loved this place, my uncle loved this place.”
  • He continued, “Nobody knows about this because it’s not in history books but he was resentful at Dwight Eisenhower for renaming it Camp David and if he made it to a second term, he was going to rename it Shangri La, which was the original name that Roosevelt had named it.”
  • President Franklin Roosevelt established Camp David as USS Shangri La, modeling the new main lodge after the Roosevelt winter vacation home in Warm Springs, Georgia. Eisenhower later renamed the institution in honor of his grandson David.
  • RFK Jr. applauded Trump for allowing reporters inside the compound, saying he had opened the “inner sanctum” of the presidency to the press.
