The crowd at Leeds City Varieties were treated to everything from rap about life in a fish and chip shop, sublimely surreal Shakespeare and a rollercoaster ride of comedy as the Impro Chums returned.
Paul Merton leads a ridiculously talented comic cast in an evening of improvised comedy chaos, where the audience throw out suggestions for sketches and scenarios that never ceases to amaze.
It's laugh-out-loud funny from start to finish, and just so damn clever.
The skill of the troupe - featuring Lee Simpson, Richard Vranch, Suki Webster, Mike McShane and accompanist Kirsty Newton - to take any suggestion, including locations, emotions and even colours, and mould them into live comedy gold, deserves a standing ovation all of its own.
It's fast paced and relentless - and the comics know instinctively when to cut a sketch short and when to let it run into absurdity.
Each show on the tour will be unique - suggestions from each audience drive the storylines - and it's not just sketches, either. One of the most impressive scenes saw Paul Merton successfully deduce a bizarre job title dreamt up by a variety of audience shout-outs all smushed together, simply by interpreting his co-stars' character pieces.
You will laugh from start to finish - you might even see one of your suggestions brought to life.
I cannot recommend this show enough. This was the second time I'd seen Paul and co.'s improvisational offering, and I'm sure I'll be back the next time they roll into Leeds.
