Review: Bicep electrify Guinness Storehouse with thrilling Dublin gig

As the sun set over Dublin on the night of the summer solstice, the Guinness Storehouse was the place to be as electronic duo Bicep set Gravity Bar on fire.

The Belfast pair's intimate gig on the seventh storey Gravity Bar on Wednesday kicked off Guinness' 'Lovely Day For A Visit' summer programme with a bang.

“We’ve never done a show like this before, so the chance to curate this one-off DJ show in Dublin at the Home of Guinness for our Irish fans is really exciting," Matt McBriar and Andrew Ferguson said at the time of the Guinness Storehouse's 'Lovely Day For A Visit' announcement.

Dublin DJ EMA had no trouble getting the crowd well-warmed up as revellers arrived. Creamy pints were flowing and the views of Dublin were glowing as fans waited for the perfect ending to the longest day of the year.

The duo landed at the decks at around 10pm and quickly got to work with hypnotising attendees. Although the venue couldn't have been anymore different from the 3Arena where Bicep performed their iconic St Patrick's Day gig, the end result of quality music enthralling a mesmerised audience was the same.

The pair had the crowd in the palm of their hand the entire way during the perfectly flowing set. Fans were treated to some thrilling new work including new single 'water', and loudly signalled their approval at every beat drop.

But it was towards the end of the set, when the duo performed their legendary 'Glue', that the crowd peaked and truly became one. Intense strobe lighting and stunning, hypnotic graphics lit up the intimate venue as time seemed to stand still.

The general consensus among attendees was that it was a privilege to see Bicep so close in such a personal gig, as the duo are used to headlining major festivals and performing to crowds of thousands of people.

Bicep will travel across the Atlantic this summer for multiple shows across the US and Canada before returning to Europe to star at a string of festivals at the end of August.

Two-time Grammy nominee Kelis will be the next musician to take over the Guinness Storehouse's Gravity Bar with her performance on July 4.
