Revenue seize drugs worth almost €100k destined for Dublin city

Drugs worth almost €100,000 that were destined for Dublin have been seized by Revenue.

The finds were made in the Portlaoise Mail Centre with the help of detector dog Sam.

Almost 5kg of herbal cannabis worth €94,000 was found yesterday along with 6kg of Khat worth €3,000 in two separate discoveries.

What to do if you're arrested

Both packages, marked clothing, were destined for addresses in the capital.

A Revenue spokesman said: "Yesterday (18/06/2019), Revenue officers in Portlaoise Mail Centre, assisted by detector dog Sam, seized drugs worth €97,000.

"In a series of operations arising from routine profiling, officers seized approximately 4.7kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated street value of €94,000. The cannabis was found in a parcel which had originated from Canada and was declared as 'clothing'.

"Separately yesterday (18/06/2019), 6kgs of Khat was also discovered. The Khat, with an estimated value of  €3,000, was detected in a parcel, also declared as ‘clothing’, and had originated from Kenya.

"Both parcels containing the illegal drugs were destined for addresses in Dublin City.

"Investigations are on-going with a view to prosecutions."
