Revenue seize €112,000 worth of cannabis at Dublin Airport

Revenue officers have seized 5.6kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €112,000 after completing a routine search of air cargo consignments at Dublin Airport on Thursday.

The cannabis was discovered, with the assistance of detector dog Enzo, concealed in a parcel described as ‘textiles’ that had originated in Spain and was destined for an address in Dublin.

In a separate incident Revenue officers were granted a three-month cash detention order by Judge Bryan Smyth at Dublin District Court on Thursday.

The order follows the seizure of €84,800 at Dublin Airport on Wednesday.

The money was found as a result of routine profiling.

Revenue officers stopped and searched a passenger prior to boarding a flight to Istanbul, Turkey.

A garda spokesperson said: “The cash is suspected to be the proceeds of, or intended for use in, criminal activity and is detained by Revenue in accordance with proceeds of crime legislation.

“Investigations are ongoing in both cases.”
