Retired carpenter from Salford died after being exposed to asbestos

A retired carpenter died from cancer, after being exposed to asbestos in his working days, an inquest has heard.

Alan Rowlett, 78, died at his home in Leaconfield Drive, Worsley on Tuesday.

Mr Rowlett was diagnosed with mesothelioma in 2018, after being exposed to asbestos while working as a joiner.

Police coroner's officer Rebecca Gardner told Bolton Coroner's Court: "Sadly Alan's condition deteriorated and he was pronounced dead at 15.30 on 31st March 2020."

The cause of death was given as "malignant mesothelioma" by Dr Greaves from The Sides Medical Centre, in Swinton.

Acting senior coroner for Manchester West, Alan Walsh, released Mr Rowlett's body for a funeral.

He asked for a statement to be prepared before 23rd April, covering Mr Rowlett's background, occupational history including any exposure to asbestos, and any family concerns.

Mr Walsh ordered the inquest to be reviewed on 3rd July.
