For a change Aizawl FC will be playing their next I-League game against Churchill Brothers in the evening on Thursday. Thus, the former champions will look to take advantage of the cooler conditions and earn their third win of the tournament.
After four defeats, the Mizoram-based side has turned things around with two consecutive wins against Sudeva Delhi and Indian Arrows. As a result, after six matches, they have six points and are currently placed ninth on the table but like coach Yan Law said during the virtual press conference on Wednesday, 'the team will have to treat every match as a final' to stay in contention for the title.
Aizawl are once again looking up to their star striker Dipanda Dicka to lead them from the front. After failing to find the net in the first two games after the restart, the Cameroonian striker have scored thrice in last three matches.
Speaking of Dicka's influence on the team, Aizawl coach Yan Law, said, "He is a prolific striker and a great leader. He has played with me in other clubs and knows exactly what I want from him. The other players have also adapted themselves well around him and the combination is fantastic at the moment."
Meanwhile, Law sounded more than pleased since he will be having almost the full squad at his disposal for the first time in the season. Even Willis Plaza's recovery is going well and there is a chance that he will be available for Thursday's match.
As for Churchill Brothers, they will be looking to earn their second win of the tournament. Despite a good squad, like Aizawl, Churchill have had a poor start but shocked table-toppers Mohammedan SC in their fifth match of the season. Their joy was short-lived though as they lost their last match against Rajasthan United and are currently placed 12th on the 13-team table with four points from six matches.
"We have been keeping the ball well and not playing too badly but the results are just not coming for us at the end of the day," said assistant coach Mateus Costa.
Despite Churchill's poor returns, Aizawl coach Law believes they are a much better team who can beat any side on their day and is not taking their opponents lightly at all.
