Restaurant warns of Facebook scammers offering 'prize' to customers

A popular Oldham restaurant has warned customers about scammers offering a fake 'prize' through Facebook.

Bosses at the Barclay Pizza & Prosecco, in Royton, took to social media to alert potentially unwitting fans about the fraud.

The scam involved an unofficial account made to look like the Facebook page for the restaurant, which had been messaging and sending friend requests to people.

One of the messages read: “Congratulations. You were chosen as the winner today. Grab your prize now by confirming the list on the official site in my top post before I declare your prize has expired.

"Quickly, quickly get your present now. Reply (ready) if you are ready.”

In response, the official Barclay account said: "Looks like somebody has opened a false page imitating us. Please DO NOT click on any links.

"We are currently dealing with the situation.

"Please could everybody report the page for us if they have any correspondence."

Adding: "DO NOT ACCEPT ANY FRIEND REQUESTS OFF THIS PAGE, if possible please make a note of how cleverly they have imitated our name and report for us if you have time."

Anyone who receives a message from the page can report it to Facebook.
