Residents speak of shock after house fire breaks out in Mansfield

Residents have spoken out about their shock after a fire broke out at a house in Mansfield.

Police and fire services were on the scene in Spinners Close to tackle the blaze at around 8.30pm on Wednesday, October 13.

One hose reel jet and two breathing apparatus were used to extinguish the fire.

Local residents have now described what they experienced on the night of the fire.

David Maddison, 47, said: "I heard quite a bit of noise and when I went for a look there was a fair bit of smoke coming out of the house.

"It is shocking to see something like that, hopefully everyone is okay.

"I didn't want to get involved with it much."

Janet Simmons, 50, who lives nearby, said: "You could see fire coming out of the roof and through some of the windows.

"I did not see much of it but I looked out of my window once I had heard the fire engines coming around, there was a lot of commotion."

Bricks at the rear of the house were jet black following the fire.

Another woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, said: "I just heard sirens and I thought they were going up the hill but then they came in here.

"But I am not one of these that goes looking.

"We don't know the circumstances as to what has happened to these poor people.
