The latest trailer released by Capcom in the Summer Game Fest 2025 event gave the world a first look into "Resident Evil Requiem," the ninth mainline installment of the franchise, with a hidden easter egg now hinting about a massive experience coming soon. This particular teaser by Capcom points out a return to a classic game setting that players enjoyed from the original game.
There is a possibility that this said location would be making its return again after many years, with this offering a callback to one of the top reasons that made "Resident Evil" the behemoth it is today.
'Resident Evil Requiem' Teases Return to Classic Setting
"Resident Evil Requiem's" trailer gave the world an overview of what sinister entities are lurking in the shadows again, with a new lead in the form of Grace Ashcroft taking matters into her own hands. However, as many dissected the latest reveal trailer, it was found that there are more elements inserted into it that hint at what more to expect from the upcoming sequel.
According to ComicBook Gaming, right around the 2:24 mark of the trailer, there is a shot of the hallway that only appears quickly, and this does not contain any other details and how Grace fits into the scene. Fans of the "Resident Evil" franchise, have immediately connected the dots and identify what this hallway is, particularly as it is eerily similar to the hallway found in the Spencer Mansion.
To those who are unfamiliar, the Spencer Mansion is the setting of the original "Resident Evil" game from almost three decades ago, with STARS Alpha Team members including Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield, Barry Burton, and Albert Wesker exploring the place. Here, they were met with a series of puzzles and traps, but ultimately discover that it is a front for the research facility managed by the Umbrella Corporation, and Wesker being a double agent.
The Spencer Mansion is known for being regarded as one of the most popular settings of horror video games as it set the tone and backbone for other installments of the franchise and inspiration for other projects.
Is it Possible for 'Requiem' To Bring It Back?
First off, it is important to note that the original Spencer Mansion was destroyed in the events of the original "Resident Evil" via an explosion that was triggered by Rebecca Chambers. The same happened in the remake of the game released in 2002.
However, Capcom brought back the Spencer Mansion in 2009's "Resident Evil 5," particularly in the "Lost in Nightmares" DLC, but it was only a replica and not the real deal.
There were previous rumors reportedly claiming that Capcom is considering a game that would have gamers exploringthe destroyed version of the Spencer Mansion post-explosion. It may play out from any scenario, particularly as Capcom may adopt the Spencer Mansion in its dilapidated state or have it remade again like in "RE5" as one of the settings of "Requiem."
That being said, the Spencer Mansion tease may only be brought as a flashback to Grace's character, being the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft.
