Rescue charity branded a 'lifeline' for troubled dogs crippled by vet bills and expenses

An animal rescue charity which is said to be a 'lifeline' for dogs with behavioural issues is drowning under expensive vet bills and other expenses.

The All Bullie Charity Rescue, which started in 2016, works with volunteers across the UK to place vulnerable dogs - belonging to the bull breed - in foster homes or emergency boarding kennels.

They currently have around 35 dogs in their care and the majority are cared for in a kennel in Rotherham, England.

Volunteer and manager of the charity, Kerryanne Shaw, from Drumchapel, says the dogs they rescue are quite often saved from being euthanised because their owners can't take care of them or they have behavioural problems.

Over Christmas, the charity took on five more dogs as they expected some of the dogs from the kennels to be rehomed.

But they were not rehomed due to issues with their applications and so The All Bullie Charity Rescue have been left with extra dogs to pay for - which is costing them a few hundred pounds a week, per dog, to keep them in kennels.

With everybody struggling because of the cost of living crisis, donations have also dropped which has had a detrimental impact.

All other kennels have been paid except for the main kennel in Rotherham. The charity still has some of last month's bill to pay before they need to fork out another £4,000 for this month's bill.

Kerryanne, 37, from Drumchapel, told Glasgow Live: "Everything else has been paid apart from our main kennel bill which is where the majority of dogs are being held.

"We do need to raise that money to make sure that we can safeguard the dogs and pay staff wages and things, it’s a real worry for us.

"If we can’t get this sorted then we will maybe have to shut. If we can’t raise the funds then the rescue will need to stop taking in dogs until we could move dogs out of kennels and rehome them.

"If we couldn’t get homes for the more difficult ones we would need to find sanctuary spaces but there’s currently no spaces and there’s a long waiting list.

"If we can’t get other spaces then we do have to close and some of the dogs could be put to sleep which is not what we want at all. Our charity is a lifeline for dogs."

She added: "We’ve had quite a few large medical bills and we did have two dogs returned as well. The rescue took them and we were using their kennels.

"The founder had a couple of strokes so we checked up on their (dogs) welfare. When we moved them it was horrific.

"One looked like a literal skeleton and in a really bad condition, he was not being fed for a long time. I was absolutely horrified.

"We believed the two dogs were safe where they were. It hit me hard and I broke down as soon as I saw them. One of the dogs is badly mentally damaged and will need a lot of rehabilitation.

"It was gut-wrenching to see the dogs in those conditions, it’s been a nightmare."
