A Twin Peaks server has gone viral for sharing how much she paid out of pocket for her uniform. Viewers are offering her tips on how to style herself for less and save money on her taxes.
In a TikTok with 24.5 million views, “professional plate lifter” Angelina Puglisi (@angelinafaithp) says she spent $267 on her uniform. She breaks down how the simple dress code of a crop top, shorts, a belt, and boots had such a high price tag.
Why did Twin Peaks server have to pay out of pocket?
First, she goes over what Twin Peaks provided to her for free: Two red buffalo plaid crop tops, a matching pair of red buffalo plaid socks, a red buffalo plaid server book, and a plain black apron. (Perhaps they ran out of red buffalo fabric.)
Then, she goes over what she purchased, starting with a new bra. She says she needed a new bra anyway since all of her best ones were a little too small. However, she was shocked by the $60 price of her new Victoria’s Secret one. She never expected to spend that much on the undergarment. However, according to Poizon, this is par for the course, as Victoria’s Secret bras in 2025 average between $30-70.
She specifically asked for the “best” push-up bra and was directed to the Bombshell. She says she brought her plaid top with her so she could see how the ensemble looked.
“The feeling of confidence that I got when I finally put on a bra that was the correct size for me—unshakable,” she says.
She adds that the purchase was not strictly necessary. However, it was worth it, as it will get her more tips.
What else did she buy?
Next up was another item she never expected to spend $60 on: a belt. She says she had been shopping on Amazon for bedazzled belts. However, she was having trouble finding any that had red details. Puglisi particularly wanted the belt to have hints of red to tie it into the rest of the outfit.
She “fell in love” with a silver belt featuring a rhinestone buckle and a Western design made out of silver and red rhinestones. This was before she saw the price, which she assumed couldn’t be more than $30. However, upon realizing it was double this amount, she bought it anyway. Puglisi felt she couldn’t leave it behind, as it was exactly what she wanted.
Next, she needed low-rise, darkwash denim shorts. She already had shorts that fit this description. However, she wanted a pair that fit her better, so she went to Aeropostale. The brand was having a BOGO free sale. There, she bought a pair for work for $50 and a free black pair for personal use she wore in the video.
“Y’all sleep on Aeropostale denim,” she says, adding that the brand had the same sale going on as denim darling American Eagle.
More from Amazon
She also made a few Amazon purchases, like another silver rhinestone belt for $9.99. “The most important part,” her black snow boots, also came from Amazon and cost $60.90. She bought a pair of “very cute” knee-length black socks with bows for $8.99. Additionally, she got sparkly black leg warmers for $11.99.
Puglisi says the rest of her uniform consists of makeup, hair, jewelry, and nails. She was going to get her nails done shortly after the video and intends to make another video on her makeup haul, but she doesn’t need any more jewelry.
“Again, I did not need to get the bra. I did not need to get the socks and leg warmers; I just needed to have the jean shorts and the boots [and a belt] in order to start working,” she adds before her video ends. “But I like to go the extra mile, so.”
Counting only the necessities, Puglisi spent $170.90 on her uniform. She could have spent $120.89 if she had opted for the Amazon belt alone rather than the Buckle belt, and could have found even more savings by going for less expensive shorts.
How does it look?
In a follow-up video, Puglisi shows off how the outfit comes together paired with light makeup and curled hair. She says she had done all of her training the week prior and finished her first shift working on her own (meaning the first one where she could earn tips) the previous day.
“It was very slow yesterday,” she says. “My sales were $438; I made $115.”
She’s not floored by this amount. However, she says the fact that it’s not much isn’t what’s important. Puglisi says she averaged a 25.6% tip per check, and she finds that number much more meaningful “because that percentage should remain consistent whether your day is slow or busy.”
She says she really enjoys the job and doesn’t mind the uniform. She likens it to being on Instagram, where she and scores of other women have posted bikini pics. As the outfit is just shorts, a shirt, and some cleavage, she feels it’s not too far off. The fact that her shoulders are covered gives her an added sense of security, and the uniform is physically comfortable as well, with the shirt being soft and not pinching in the underarm region. The boots, which still need to be broken in, and the bra are less comfortable, but she is managing.
And the clients?
Regarding the potential for creepy clientele, she says she’s heard horror stories from her co-workers, but management has the ladies’ backs. For example, if someone takes a picture of a server without their consent, they’re kicked out. She also notes that, while she thought the environment could be catty, all of the other servers are “girls’ girls” and want each other to succeed.
Puglisi invites viewers to stop by her Chattanooga location for a 29-degree draft beer and says they can look forward to Bikini Week, though it has since passed.
‘Bombshell bra=tax [write] off for work’
In the comments section, viewers offered suggestions on how she could be smart with her uniform expenses.
A former server from a competing breastaurant offered a trade secret: “Former Hooters Girl here.. save your receipts because everything for work is tax deductible. Hair, nails, makeup, gym membership..everything!!”
A second viewer suggested, “The walmart brand, no boundaries has an amazing push up bra thats comfortable with no underwire! its like $10-15 and ive sworn by them for the past year/year and a half (and its good for bigger chested people … )”
Another said, “Them requiring you to wear all these items but not supplying them is crazy.”
In response, viewers argued that the only things she really needed to buy were the shorts, shoes, and belt. It is common for workers to provide at least their own black pants and non-slip shoes for food service jobs. However, others argued that the law requires employers to provide any necessary clothing, especially if it is safety gear.
How much of your uniform does a job have to cover?
According to Prudential Overall Supply, “Generally speaking, state laws dictate that employers must pay for specific work uniforms, including those with branding or company logos. On the other hand, employees are responsible for general work clothing on their own. In other words, an employee should buy their own dress shirts and ties, scrubs, or blue tee shirts, if that’s what is asked by the employer. But if the company requires scrubs with the doctor’s name and address on the front, or a button down shirt with the company logo over the chest, that falls under the employer’s responsibility to purchase.”
There is one more thing to consider when it comes to employees bearing uniform costs. As the University of Tennessee Institute for Public Service states, “If the employer requires the employee to bear the cost, it may not reduce the employee’s wage below the minimum wage or cut into overtime compensation required by the FLSA.”
According to Indeed, Twin Peaks servers make $10.47 on average. Assuming Puglisi works 40-hour weeks, she’d make $418.80 in a week at this rate. If she were making the federal minimum wage of $7.25, it’d be $290. With these numbers, the most Twin Peaks could legally require her to pay for her uniform is $128.80.
