Republican lawmaker shredded for saying ‘President Trump’s regime’ live on air

A Republican lawmaker has been slammed for saying “President Trump’s regime” live on air.

Senator Dave McCormick made the controversial remark while appearing on Fox News’s America’s Newsroom on May 26, with one critic claiming that the politician was saying “the quiet part out loud”.

Discussing the conflict with Iran, McCormick said that there was “no doubt” that gas prices were “putting real pressure on working families”.

“But the alternative of Iran with a nuclear weapon…they could threaten America or its kids, which was very likely to happen under President Trump’s regime…” he said.

McCormick quickly corrected himself, “His administration, if we hadn’t taken action.”

Social media users tore into McCormick, though, with many X users claiming that the senator had made a “Freudian slip.”

“Dave McCormick went on Fox and called it ‘Trump’s regime’ before catching himself like a kid who just cussed in front of grandma,” one X user quipped.

Another jabbed, “Oops. Dave said the quiet part out loud.”

McCormick, the junior senator for Pennsylvania, shared an excerpt from the interview on X, although he left out his apparent verbal slip-up.

The senator claimed that Iran “cannot have a nuclear weapon,” that the U.S. needs to “get rid” of Islamic Republic’s ability to “terrorize its neighbor” with ballistic missiles, and that the Strait of Hormuz must be opened.

“Those are the conditions that have to be met for any deal to work,” he said.

McCormick added that Iran has a choice between a “path to prosperity” or the U.S. will use “additional pressure with military force.”

The Independent has contacted the White House and Senator McCormick for comment.
